Paul McCartney U.S. tour 2005!

Ну вот я и сходил на заключительный в туре концерт.

ОБ ОРГАНИЗАЦИИ

Конечно, досмотр перед входом в Staples Center. Несмотря на жирный текст на билетах NO CAMERAS, я всё-таки взял свой маленький цифровик - начитался на форумах, что на предыдущем концерте досмотр был не слишком строгий. Жена взяла свою плёночную мыльницу. И правда, мы прошли "рамку" без проблем. Я-то свой фотик заныкал в рюкзачке так, что его не нашли, но у жены в маленькой сумочке точно не могли проглядеть, что есть фотоаппарат.

В фойе бойко продаются сувениры, и типичные фаст фуды с негустым пивом.

Ди-джей начал где-то в 8:35 (заявлено начало было на 8), недолго, потом сразу фильм, потом сразу Пол. В принципе, задержка в разумных пределах - гораздо лучше, чем на концерте Роллингов (они начали только через 2 часа, но об этом отдельно, если кому интересно).

Мы начали фотографировать во время Jet. Успели сделать несколько снимков. Материализовался секьюрити, и потребовал сдать фотоаппараты, так что я поплёлся за ним в специальную камеру хранения, заполнил какую-то форму, и вернулся в зал, когда Jet уже закончилась. Надо сказать, это у них хорошо организовано - после концерта без проблем выдали аппараты, снимки все на месте. Всё доброжелательно и с улыбкой, спасибо - самим вам спасибо. Всё-таки по-человечески они понимают тебя, наверно, хоть и работа у них такая жандармская.

Все места на концерте сидячие, и публика в основном тоже (об этом ниже). Я решил, что буду смотреть стоя в проходе (ну как сидеть-то?). Опять секьюрити, пройдите на своё место пжалста спасибо. Других 'стоячих' тоже усаживали, но к какому-то моменту эта тирания закончилась. Наверно, я рано стал снимать. Если бы подождал, то и со съёмкой, думаю, проблем бы не было.

Читал, что на предыдущем концерте у многих отнимали зажигалки, зажжённые во время песен - на нашем концерте я этого не видел.

О ПУБЛИКЕ

Эта американская публика! Вероятно, отчасти дело в том, что на концерты типа Пола и Роллингов таскается в основном олда. Они занимают места, и сидят спокойно весь концерт, как на поминках. Это ещё что! Многие даже не хлопают, не говоря уже про издавание других звуков, как то свист энд shout. Ну, в самом деле, вот сходили мы на Роллингов, так там за весь наш сектор я один создавал шум. Поймите, я не иронизирую! Не считая жидких апплодисментов, никто не проявлял активного одобрения.

На концерте Пола мне повезло больше. Хотя в основном публика в нашем секторе проявляла сначала овощное состояние, прямо рядом со мной сидела заводная мексиканская парочка, вот с ними-то мы и раскочегарили, как могли, наше сонное царство. Правда, они-таки разлили на мой рюкзак добрую часть пива, которым размахивали от 'чувств-с', но за их живость я на это происшествие не обиделся, да и предметы в рюкзаке не успели пострадать.

На концерте Пола молодёжи было всё-таки больше, чем у Роллингов, так что и в целом было живее. Но в основном старичьё всё-таки без сил. Ещё и косятся на тебя. Щщитают хулиганом, наверно.

Нет, я всё-таки не могу понять причины этой преждевременной вегетации. Хотя я понимаю, что: они уже пожилые, и сил у них меньше, чем у тебя; они, может, всё это уже много раз видели, и больше их это не впечатляет, а для тебя это всё свежо и ново; они, может, просто пришли на концерт от нечего делать, почему бы не сходить, а так им что Пол Макка, что Пол Робсон. Но это всё не стыкуется с тем, что: и Пол, и Роллинги, пожалуй, постарше будут, а прыти дай бог каждому! И зачем на концерт тогда идти? Можно поставить диск дома, и насладиться спокойно, ведь и звук-то на концерте не ахти (но об этом потом). И самое непостижимое для меня: как они в своей летаргии умудряются купить билеты?? Серьёзно, билеты на этот концерт начали продаваться за пол года, и кончились все до одного в течение получаса! Представляется толпа фанатов, упорно атакующих Ticketmaster.com, чтобы попасть на уникальный концерт. Где они??

Ну ладно, у каждого своё виденье того, как надо слушать концерт Макки. Пожалуй, такое как у них виденье у меня ассоциируется больше с прослушиванием симфоний, но ведь и там музыкантам по крайней мере аплодируют.

Я уже не говорю про хождение во время песен за пивом и едой.

Жена подсказывает: подпевали плохо. Точно. В Hey Jude это было особенно заметно. Позорище какое-то.

И всё-таки есть ложка мёда: многие в форумах жалуются на такое сонное состояние публики. Есть-таки живые люди! И в целом уровень положительного шума в зале был на достойном уровне за счёт присутствующих неспящих. Так что не всё плохо! Да и последнюю треть концерта мы уже не садились, вместе с теми, кто был позади (что избавляет от чувства вины перед ними).

ПРО САУНД

Саунд был не очень. По крайней мере в начале концерта. Magical Mistery Tour звучала как каша. Возможно, Staples Center не очень подходит для музыкальных мероприятий. Трудно предположить, что у Пола рукожопые звукотехники, так что в основном я пеняю на акустику зала. Но и звучки лажали: в Foxey Lady я бы не услышал соло, если бы не знал, что оно там есть, и не прислушивался в оба уха. Это точно не из-за зала.

Но потом как-то всё выравнялось. В не-забойных номерах вообще всё было чисто, а под конец и в Helter Skelter я всё отчётливо разбирал. И я не оглох, как это часто бывает после концертов.

Если разместить концерты на условной шкале, то саунд был хуже, чем у Депеш Мод (в Аризоне, в прошлую пятницу), но лучше, чем у Роллингов на стадионе (в Сан Диего три недели назад).

Точно могу сказать, что саунд на Красной Площади мне понравился намного больше. Я помню, что там громкость создавала достаточный драйв, и в то же время не глушила, и что я прекрасно разборчиво слышал все инструменты и вокал. Но возможно, эта оценка глубоко субьективна (но об этом позже).

ВООБЩЕ ПРО ЗРЕЛИЩЕ

Тяжело сказать что-то новое - у Пола, как известно, сет-лист расписан чётко, включая все шутки и "экспромты", и едва ли этот концерт отличался от остальных в туре.

Хотя сидели мы не в первых рядах, наш предпоследний сектор оказался не так плох, как я думал. Во-первых, мы смотрели на сцену прямо (не с боку). И не так уж далеко это было - в бинокль так вообще можно было рассматривать все трещинки, да и без бинокля хорошо.

Пол выглядел устало, но вы не подумайте, что он играл вяло! От души отработал. Могёт.

Рассказывал про другие концерты в туре, и как в дырку провалился, и как в космос живьём вещал. И про погоду на Красной Площади рассказал, как наши распыляли эту дрянь с самолётов, выполняя обещание, что "зе везе вил би гут!" - он с таким акцентом изображал. О, кстати, про акцент - он в самом начале с таким шварценеггеровским акцентом сказал «привет, калифорния», мне и многим было смешно, но в массе народ как-то не прорубил юмор.

Back in the USSR, конечно. С коллажами про ленина и пр. Я создавал шум, как мог. И вообще народ колбасился - нравится народу! И когда он рассказ про Красную Площадь начал - все слушают, а я свистеть, мол, зашибись было. Не к месту, вобщем-то, но не сдержался. А чего? Они все улюлюкают, когда он что-нибудь про Лос Анджелес. Я тоже не железный. Возможно, из присутствующих в зале я был единственный зритель, кто был на концерте в Москве.

Кстати, про ЛА. Рассказал, как он обычно сомневается, петь или не петь I Will на концертах, и как вот однажды был он в мексиканском ресторане в Пасадене (это предместье ЛА), подходит к нему дядя, мол, угостить вас дринком. И рассказал этот дядя, что его дочка выступала в школе, и пригласила папу, не признаваясь, что она будет делать, типа сюрприз, и короче исполнила со сцены I Will. Папу это очень растрогало, и Пола тоже. Так что он теперь поёт I Will.

Перед Let It Be Пол попросил зажечь все огоньки, кто какие может. Начал петь. И тут в партере, в двух проходах, ведущих к сцене, появляются две процессии со свечами. Это был обслуживающий персонал тура, и как я понял, это они такой сюрприз Полу устроили. Кажется, такого на других концертах не было.

Во, ещё о сюрпризах. Во время I' ve Got A Feeling Эйб и Викс нацепили на свои лысые головы парики под-битлз. Пол это заметил где-то только в середине песни, от смеха перепутал слова.

По отзывам тех, кто был и на других концертах в этом туре, джем в The End на нашем концерте они пилили раз в десять дольше, чем на других. Но я не ручаюсь, на других концертах не был. Вобщем-то, все мои предположения о сюрпризах тоже основаны на посторонних отзывах - я не следил за отчётами о других концертах.

А, чего там говорить - всё понравилось! Включая ди-джея перед концертом. У меня было впечатление по предыдущим рассказам, что он даёт какой-то ремикс песен Пола с техно-акцентом. Оказалось, это был микс из каверов песен Пола (включая период Битлз), ну может с небольшим утяжелением. Ничего так. Был и Сержант Пеппер в исполнении Хендрикса.

Все ждали, что на этом заключительном концерте Пол анонсирует европейский тур, но он не анонсировал. В конце концерта сказал, мол, see you next time . Внушил надежду! Наверно, не всё ещё вычерпал из пороховниц.

Пол знает, как сыграть достойный концерт. Так что от себя здесь добавить и нечего.

Сегодня прочитал, что когда зал уже наполовину опустел, Пол снова тихонечко вышел один на сцену. Ну надо же было это пропустить!

ДВА КОНЦЕРТА

Повезло, конечно, попасть на этот концерт. Клёво. И я очень порадовался, что мой первый концерт был всё-таки в России, и всё-таки московский, самый первый в России. Хоть я и был тогда в самом заднем секторе, несравнимо дальше от сцены. Это было другое. В Америке не объяснить, а вам и объяснять не нужно, о чём я.

Жена говорит, что скучно написал. Как смог! Весь запал расточил на концерте.

Релиз у Вас просто замечательный, чувствуется искренность русского человека :) Странная всё-таки эта американская публика - пресытившаяся какая-то... На Маккартни да с пивом?! Ещё бы они там какой-то звук издать смогли, им голова для другого нужна - они ей едят!

На кой фик Полу сдалась эта зажравшаяся американская публика? ;) Он ее "любит" только за то, что имеет с этого неплохие деньги...
А в Россию приезжает для души... ;)

Paul McCartney at Glendale Arena

Seeing rock icon Paul McCartney in concert is not quite the novelty it used to be, but it remains an undeniably moving experience.

We've seen McCartney at this year's Super Bowl and Live 8 benefit, and he visited Phoenix in 2002 on a world tour in which he played many of the same classic songs that he performed Wednesday night at Glendale Arena.

But the sight of McCartney, still looking and sounding great at age 63 and most important, still appearing to enjoy himself as he sings such early Beatles hits as 'Please Please Me' and 'I'll Get You,' Wings standouts like 'Band On the Run' and 'Let Me Roll It' and newer solo tunes including 'Fine Line' and 'Jenny Wren,' remains impressive to any music fan with even the slightest grasp of rock-and-roll history.

'We came many miles to rock you tonight, and rock you we will,' McCartney promised early in a 37-song performance that stretched nearly three hours, with no intermission. (Make all the jokes you want about aging rock stars, but most rising new bands in their 20s play concerts about half that long.)

Backed by a top-flight four-piece band led by a longtime collaborator -- keyboard and synthesizer wizard Paul 'Wix' Wickens -- McCartney delivered on that promise with a surgical precision that seemed to bring smiles to the faces of nearly everyone in the sold-out crowd of more than 17,000.

As on his 2002, tour, McCartney has come to terms with the fact that most of his baby boomer-heavy audience wants a generous dose of Beatles fare, and two-thirds of Wednesday's set was made up of just that.

What made this outing even more rewarding were extended between-song stories about how various tunes were created.

The early Beatles hit 'Till There Was You,' it turns out, was written as a romantic 'smoochie song' that would get the Fab Four gigs in some of Liverpool's more upscale clubs before they hit it big in 1964.

'Eleanor Rigby' was developed when McCartney and the late George Harrison 'used to sit around learning guitar' and listening to the music of Bach.

Before the Beatles disbanded in 1970, they were itching to play in the Soviet Union, 'just to play this song,' McCartney said, before ripping through 'Back in the U.S.S.R.' (He finally got his wish, albeit without Harrison, the late John Lennon and Ringo Starr, when he played Moscow's Red Square on his last tour.)

Devotees in search of rarities were treated to a version of 'the first record we ever made ' before the Beatles,' according to McCartney. 'In Spite of All the Danger' was recorded by McCartney, Lennon and Harrison and two other musicians who have since faded into oblivion. The bluesy number bore the imprint of Elvis Presley but wasn't too shabby for a bunch of English kids in their teens.

Wearing a black jacket with scarlet lapels, a blue shirt, black trousers and two white wristbands that appeared to support the 'One' campaign against world poverty, McCartney still maintained the boyish looks that drove millions of female fans wild in the '60s. He admits that he colors his hair, but we should all hope to look half this good in our '60s.

Like his seemingly ageless contemporary, Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones (who play Glendale on Sunday), McCartney still clearly feeds off the adulation of fans who are reliving key moments of their youth at his shows. McCartney made frequent eye contact with concertgoers in the first 30 rows, winking or flashing a thumbs-up to particularly enthusiastic fans. He joked about how signs like one that said, 'All We Need Is Paul' are appreciated but can sometimes be distracting as he's trying to remember lyrics, and he bragged about 'Good Day Sunshine' being used to wake up astronauts on a mission of the space shuttle Discovery.

McCartney still hits 95 percent of the high notes -- and there were some very high ones in the Beatles' catalog.

His ability to nail those notes and transport listeners back to the '60s with live renditions of 'Penny Lane,' 'I Will,' 'Please Please Me' and 'Magical Mystery Tour' remains stunning. If you're waiting for McCartney to start sounding old and shrivel from the stage, it may be a while.

McCartney showed the strains of an extended tour on the new 'Jenny Wren,' a sort of extension of the Beatles' 'Blackbird,' which he also performed. His voice occasionally cracked and faded on the new tune's falsetto parts, as well as on some high notes during 1967's 'Fixing a Hole,' but these are minor complaints.

For the overwhelming majority of this concert, the good-natured McCartney -- who also received solid backing from guitarists Rusty Anderson and Brian Ray as well as drummer Abe Laborial -- did more than enough to make those who bought his rather pricey tickets feel that they had received their money's worth.

The interview was conducted in Brian's suite Saturday November 26, 2005 at noon following a rockin show the night before at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Just hours later Brian was to again be on-stage with Paul, Abe, Rusty and Wix to do a sound check and then 2nd Las Vegas show.

Mike: Brian, thanks for taking the time to spend with me this morning. What a show last night, the bands first of two shows in Las Vegas. Is there anything different you do in your routine to prepare for a two night as compared to a one night stand like in Phoenix or Toronto.

Brian: Yes I sleep twice. All that is different really for us is, we know that two in a row it's a pretty demanding show vocally, you know. We really give it a hundred percent everytime we open our mouths and sing. We not you know wispering up there, it's really blasting out there so we need every minute of two days to recover from the two days on, so, yeah. And then we do warmups everynight before the show. We all warm-up vocally together, ah, you know we'll stretch and we'll do a couple of excercises and then we'll get a guitar, an acoustic guitar and then we'll gather around and sing for fifteen minutes.

Mike: What's your favourite part of this tour?

Brian: Hmmm, it's just be a really fun tour. A lot of great time with Paul, a lot of face time with Paul. A lot of great new material from his terrific new album "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard". And I think working the new songs that are so brillant into the show has been really satifying to me, and really fun to go play, you know "Friends To Go" or How Kind Of You" at the sound check. You know we does these hour long sound checks and, so when he's pulling in new material you know you see an artist there that has the breadth of material and experience that he has he's also creating amazing new material. It just makes you feel real vital up there. Were not just a museum thing were a vital new band backing up a vital creative artist.

Mike: In preparing for the tour before the tour rehersals, were you given a list of so many songs to be considered. In other words can you give us a little insight on the process you went through prior to rehearsals ?

Brian: Oh yeah, before every tour Paul will sort of get a general idea in his own mind of what he feels like doing, he'll shoot off a list of songs for us, and it's a ruff list and songs will be added later and songs will be taken out but usually we'll get a list of 45 songs, to be wittled down to a mere 37. (we both laugh)

Brian: And ah, so we have a lot to look into and we get prepared on all of those you know. And what usually happens, the band will get together for four days before he gets to rehearsal just to get our feet wet and get oriented on the new material. Do some vocal work so the backgrounds are pretty set so he can just drop into a fairly nice sound when he gets in four days later.

Mike: Can you name a couple songs that were on the short-list that you would like to see added, that you really liked ?

Brian: Ones that say we didn't rehearse but didn't make the show? Let me see here. We did "The Night Before", the band, now this is just band preparing then playing for Paul, "The Night Before", "Backseat of My Car", "Waterfalls", ah, there's a few others that I probably won't mention because they could make the next tour and I don't want to tip my hat and ah .

Mike: I'll mention them.

Brian: I not gonna mention them because I wouldn't wannna, cuz you know there is an element of surprise that Paul really appreciates. But those are a few that over the time we've tried, oh "Junk" we had a real cool time playing "Junk", that was for the '04 Tour actually we rehearsed that one. "Paperback Writer", you know there's been a number of them and a long time agon in 2002 we did Lovely Rita. But you know he's got an embarasment of riches you know. He's the only artist I can think of who can take out 15 songs from a show and your not going to leave dissappointed as you've heard so many amazing songs.

Mike: It was so good to see the additional St. Petersburg video added on the DVD. Then some of those songs, "I've Got A Feeling", "Helter Skelter" carried on to this tour.

Brian: Yeah, that, you know those are songs that of course as a band we've all wanted to do for a long time. But I think "Helter Skelter" is a song that carried with it a lot of old baggage. But I think it got to the place where enough time had passed since some of that old news that he felt like he needed to take that song back, and when he recognized that some other bands were doing this song, like U2 saying Helter Skelter. He's going wait a second, I'm the guy who sang it and wrote it I should do it. So we were way excited because he sings the crap out of that too.

Mike: I interview Bill Bernstein a few times, Rusty as well, Bill recounted in one of the questions, initially Paul's hesitance for "Helter Skelter" but you guys urged him on.

Brian: We persisted, yeah we persisted, and persisted you know.

Mike: Let me shake your hand at that one. (we laugh and shake hands)

Brian: Yes job well done, but you know it's really up to Paul you know it doesn't get done unless he feels like it's vital, you know unless he feels good about it. He's not gonna just do it do it. He's gotta feel like it means something to do it this many years later.

Mike: What about "Come and Get It" and "Juniors Farm", for him to reclaim "Come and Get It" . . . his song.

Brian: Oh I forgot to tell you we rehearsed "Come and Get It", did you hear that ?

Mike: Yes, we heard rumors about that in Miami.

Brian: Yeah, we had a great time playing that too. We played the "Come and Get It" that was his demo version. So we got to hear the original, I guess it's out there it's on the Anthology. His version of "Come and Get It" is a little slower than the Badfinger version and it has ah, a little different chord in it after the first chorus. You know there's just a few things different about it.

Mike: I heard you guys do "Friends To Go" during the Toronto sound check and I thought it would fit so well, I was also hoping for "About You" from Driving Rain.

Brian: Well as I say if we played all the things we felt like playing we'ld still be on-stage now from last night's show, so, you just gotta make some choices. Luckily he doesn't have much trouble cutting and adding.

Mike: Can you tell us a track or two from the sessions that you guys laid down that stuck in your head. Perhaps something we may see in the future, and this is with reference to the sessions prior to Chaos and Creation.

Brian: Um, I'm going to pass on the right now.

Mike: Fair enough.

Brian: Out of respect for the boss, because as I said before he likes to be the one to introduce things and it wouldn't be a great idea for to go and to that. I would leave for him to do.


Mike: Besides "Follow Me" on Chaos, was there another song on Chaos that you guys might have worked with him on ?

Brian: Yeah, there were other things that were recorded for Chaos that we worked on as well and as the project went forward, Nigel decided he wanted, the producer Nigel Godrich, decided e wanted to do a particular record with Paul. One that was mainly Paul accompanying Paul on all instruments like his first two solo records. Ah, and that's the record they ended up making. Yeah it was a pleasure to experiement with some of the songs from Chaos in their earlierst incarnations with Paul and with Nigel. And based on the result they did the right thing, they made a great record.

Mike: We surely hope what in the can right now with you guys that something will be coming out after the tour.

Brian: Hey you never know.

Mike: Regarding the vocal, guitar and bass parts you play on the tour with Paul, how much of your learning process was actually listening to the original vs just picking up the songs from scratch as part of the rehearsals ?

Brian: Well, when I first got in the band I had sort of five weeks to prepare for Paul's first tour, the Driving Rain tour. I didn't have a song list yet but what I knew is that I would be asked to play bass on a bunch of it, guitar on a bunch of it and acoustic on a bunch, 12-string on a bunch, and sing all the time. So I set up my second bedroom, it was like a little bunker you know, I had a bass on a guitar stand, a guitar, an acoustic, a 12-string, a stack of CDs, a mic. standing up, 2 amps on the side and everything in arms reach. And I just, all day long, I would just sneak out for a meal every once in a while, and I, I just worked and worked and worked on the stuff, without a song list just at things I thought that he might do and just banged away at it for five weeks until I felt like I was in good shape to start playing with Paul. and umm, it was just a great time because never in my life before I have every really wanted something so much as I wanted to play with Paul, and ah, So I just really worked, I shut everything else out. Dating was gone, all other activities were gone I was like Howard Hughes of rock. Stay in-doors with tinfoil on the windows and rehearsed music until I was ready.

Mike: I guess this next one is kind of similar, this one is from a fan, I've got several fan questions here. A fan Billy Bilant from Indiana, Pennsylvania wants to know, as you learn parts actually played by Paul, did you feel extra pressure to copy his performance exactly or did you feel free to play what was appropriate ?

Brian: Well I started out with a great deal of reverance to his parts because to me as a fan and a listener as a kid, his sense of bass you know, his you know, sort or, sense of the roll of the bass is so important intrinsic to sound of these records that we all grew up with. So to me, those bass parts and those bass lines everything to do with them, are hooks. Even the little analomies, things that happen once in a song that don't happen again, to me are little treasures and I want to pick up on those. And for any fan who cares about 'em, just say, "Hey I was listening too", you know. Because people do appreciate that. Now on top of that we became more comfortable, Paul is real groovy. He's a musician who wants to play music, not work music, you know. So he's gracious and allows us a lot of freedom, so that is really fun. You know we, we get to goof on with, goof off and on, goof on and goof off, ah, the material so that's fun.

Mike: Last night there were five, what are the chances of us getting a sixth reprise of "I'll Follow The Sun"?

Brian: Allright, were taking bets on that. Odds are about 20:1 right now in favour of a sixth.

Mike: Well we are in Vegas.

Brian: That's why I'm saying, those are good odds. I would take those.

Mike: There you go . . . Put me down for a hundred for me. Which MACCA song is the most difficult for you and your opinion, for the band?

Brian: Wow, you know, I'll tell you what. The most decievingly complex song is "Please Please Me".

Mike: Seriously ?

Brian: Yeah, you listen to that song, and oh, what a nice little pop song. Yeah, it's engrained in our DNA and oh, it's so simple. Anyone can sing it. Anyone can play it, it's just a couple of chords. Man, go and try and figure out those harmonies.

Mike: Exactly.

Brian: They are not easy. So I think that's a song that funny enough we really, really, had to concentrate on and we've come along way since our early rehearsals of that song. We heard an early rehearsal and we were all "AAAHHHH!, who was that!" (we laugh) And now were doing it pretty good, but that one is ah, deceptively tricky.

Mike: What tunes are the most fun to play thus far ?

Brian: Ah, I'm having a great time on all of it, "Too Many People", in The Bathroom Window is a gas. "Good Day Sunshine", "Helter Skelter". I love playing "Fine Line" from the new album. For some reason it just tickles me. That song is just so fun. It's so good natured and so fun and I get all this great, sort of face time with Paul because he's kind of staring right at me for the whole song. Anyway, it's a joy to play that, lot of the stuff.

Кстати, в обзоре концерта забыл упомнуть - Пол объявил, что эту песню включить в программу тура посоветовал Кит Ричардс. Может, он это говорил и на других концертах, как один из отрепетрованных элементов программы... не знаю... :)

Наверное это надо было видеть, как в 63 все Роллинги тащились под "Please Please Me". Минуло 42 года и впечатления все не оставляли их - Мик Киту: "Увидишь Пола, не забудь попросить его включить в конц. программу".

Кстати, сами Битлз ее недолго исполняли. После 12 февраля 64 в Вашингтоне она больше нигде не значится.

Пытался скачать 19 трэк из медиа-архива: Follow Me. Вместо получил какую-то подборку из отрывков концертного выступления, похожую идеей на Clip Real, указанную в списке первой. Или так и было запланировано?

А вот, кстати, если кто помнит про мои впечатления от концерта Пола... Вычитал про восприятие музыки американскими слушателями, подмеченное Ильфом и Петровым в повести "Одноэтажная Америка". Есть у них, оказывается, кроме бендерианы, ещё мощные вещи - с рвением истинного неофита :), всем настоятельно рекомендую эту повесть про их путешествие по Штатам в 1935 году. Поразительно, как мало изменилось с тех пор! В повести попадаются, конечно, тенденциозные оценки американской действительности с точки зрения марксизьма-ленинизьма, но в целом отражение весьма объективное, не говоря уж про их юмор.

........Он играл. Была такая тишина, будто вся тысяча слушателей на галерее полегла мертвой, отравленная новым, неизвестным до сих пор музыкальным газом. Рахманинов кончил. Мы ожидали взрыва. Но в партере раздались лишь нормальные аплодисменты. Мы не верили своим ушам. Чувствовалось холодное равнодушие, как будто публика пришла не слушать замечательную музыку в замечательном исполнении, а выполнить какой-то скучный, но необходимый долг. Только с галерки донеслось несколько воплей энтузиастов.
Все концерты, на которых мы побывали в Америке. произвели такое же
впечатление...................
........Крейслер играл с предельной законченностью. Он играл утонченно, поэтично и умно. В Москве после такого концерта была бы получасовая овация. Чтобы ее прекратить, пришлось бы вынести рояль и погасить все люстры. Но тут, так же как в Нью-Йорке, игра не вызвала восторга публики. Крейслеру аплодировали, но не чувствовалось в этих аплодисментах благодарности.

BEN AND MELISSA'S ENGAGEMENT STORY

Ben and Melissa got engaged on October 14, 2005 at Paul McCartney's Detroit concert. Paul gave the couple his blessing. On December 2, 2006 Ben and Melissa were married. Here's the original story about the engagement.

I wanted to quickly write about our experience at Paul's show on Friday, October 14 in Detroit. Besides being a great concert, what a memorable evening it turned out to be for Melissa and myself! I had been trying to come up with a creative way to propose to my girlfriend and I decided that doing it at the Paul McCartney concert would be a neat way to pop the question. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that Paul would be there to actually help with it!

I had spent the last few weeks calling and emailing people trying to get word to Paul that I was planning on doing it, but I never heard back from anyone. I decided that making a sign or two would be the best bet, especially since we would be in row 4. I made several signs, one for myself to hold and a few extra to pass out. Special thanks to Pam and her friend - I can't think what your name is off the top of my head - for taking one, and for the guy who asked if I had an extra one to pass up front.) When the show started I held up my sign while Melissa thought it was the "We love you Paul" sign she made, not knowing it was my "Marry Me" sign.

Several songs had passed and nothing had happened when someone walked by and asked if I had an extra sign they could pass up to the front row. I said yes and gave him one. I don't know how long the sign was there, but right after Paul performed "Eleanor Rigby" he was talking about reading signs and trying to remember chords, lyrics, etc. He bent down like he was reading a sign, then his eyes lit up and a big smile came across his face. He said, "I have to read this one! 'Can Ben in row 4 ask Melissa to marry him?' I don't know, Ben, can you?" Paul said.

I started jumping up waving my hands so Paul could find me. I pulled out the ring out of my pocket and I heard Melissa gasp. Paul told me "to get down on one knee, just like this (he demonstrated)" then he told me to, "Come on, get to it!" So I got down on one knee and proposed. I heard Paul say into the microphone, "She said yes!" and the entire Palace of Auburn Hills went up in cheers and yells. Wix referred to Paul as "Reverend Paul," and then Paul said "This has never happened at a concert before. This is a first for me, and it better be a last for you, Ben!"

Through the rest of the show Rusty, who was standing in front of us, would look down and smile and wink at us. Paul kept constant eye contact with us for the rest of the show, smiling and waving and winking at us. The happiness in his face was showing. At one point he had a long "ooooooooo" and shaking his head and I was singing along doing the same. He saw me and started to laugh. Afterwards he waved his finger at me in a "I saw that!" way but then gave me the thumbs up. During "Hey Jude" when it came to the "na na na na" section Paul did the "just this side, just this side, just the men, just the women" thing, and then he said, "Now just Ben and Melissa!" and there we were on the big screen! I know that not one person heard us, but we tried out best! At the very end of the show, when the band was taking its final bows, right before they left the stage, they came to the edge of the stage where we were and gave us thumbs up and waves, then bowed for us! Both Melissa and I am touched at the kindness shown to us there.

On Saturday we went back and Melissa made a "Thanks Paul! Love Ben and Melissa" sign to hold when the limo came through. When Paul arrived, he saw it and waved and gave us the thumbs up. We were interviewed by Paul's video guy, and Bill Bernstein and several others took our picture. During the show, Paul mentioned the engagement again and everyone said they could tell he was really proud to be part of that.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who was there and has sent their well-wishes and prayers to Melissa and me. We really appreciate it and we're happy to have been able to share a special moment with so many people, including Paul himself! God Bless all of you!
