Майк Кэмпбелл играет на новом альбоме Дилана.
У Боба Дилана 28 апреля выходит новый альбом. В записи лаьбоме приняли участие некоторые участники The Heartbreakers. Вот ксочек из интервью с Диланом:


The instrumental sections on your albums have a different quality than the usual rock instrumental sections. For instance, on an Aerosmith record, at least part of it is about Joe Perry's solo. While there's wonderful playing on BEYOND HERE LIES NOTHING, we don't hear the usual guitar soloing technique. Is there a special way you approach the instrumental sections on a record?



What can I say, if I had Joe Perry with me everything would obviously be different. As it is though, he wasn't there. Soloing is not a big part of my records anyway. Nobody buys them to hear solos. What I try to do is to make sure that the instrumental sections are dynamic and are extensions of the overall feeling of the song.


Who's that playing with you here?
Mike Campbell.

You have a history with Mike?
Yeah, I do. He played with me a lot when I played with Tom Petty.
I saw some of those shows. I particularly liked the segment during the show when it was just you and Mike and Benmont and no bass or drums.
Yeah. We worked out a few things. I would've always liked to have seen that develop more, but it didn't.
How is he to work with?
He's good with me. He's been playing with Tom for so long that he hears everything from a songwriter's point of view and he can play most any style.

Venerable L.A. guitar shop McCabe's has seen more than its share of highlights over the years, with Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello and Cat Power among the artists who've graced the stage in the back of the guitar shop. Add another to that list as 150 lucky fans on Saturday night got, what the evening's performer J.J. Cale called, "a real big treat" in the form of Tom Petty and Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers.

Cale, the veteran Oklahoma singer/songwriter, was playing the second of his two sold-out shows in the tiny room when halfway through the set, he brought out Petty and Campbell for a couple of songs.

>"They were across the street drinking, I went over to drink with them, said, 'I'm playing across the street,' and here they are," Cale told the crowd. What no one knew though was that a couple of songs would turn into half the set. After engaging in a sing-along version of 'Crazy Mama' and then 'After Midnight,' featuring a sterling Campbell solo, Cale told another story as way of introduction.



"We were sitting backstage talking and I said, 'Tom, you want to sing one?'" Cale said. Petty picked 'I'd Like to Love You, Baby,' which Cale said created one problem. "I'd never played it live and I told him, 'I don't remember it.' Tom said, 'I'll show you.' So if you can believe it, Tom Petty was backstage showing me one of my songs," Cale said, laughing.

Petty sat next to Cale, who played with ease as he wove stories throughout his delivery of blues and rock with sublime grace. It made it easy to understand why even a big star like Petty seemed suitably humbled to be up there alongside Cale.

In the newest issue of Rolling Stone magazine (issue 1087), there is a full page article on the upcoming release of a 4-disc box set titled "The Live Anthology," featuring choice live cuts spanning the entire career of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. This is it, the live album we've been hearing about for so long!!!

Sounds like a great set too, with the reviewer (David Fricke) commenting that it is "peppered with surprises" including rarites, covers, and alternate renditions of the familiar hits. The 4-disc set is said to be due in early November and cost only $25, which is more than fair in my opinion, though I do have some gripes about an alternate "deluxe package" costing close to $100 (it includes a 5th disc, plus an LP from 1976 live shows, and a blu-ray disc in "super-high fidelity"). It might actually be worth the money, but I for one cannot afford it... Regardless, I am super excited for this and thought I'd share it in case any of you haven't heard about it yet..."

For this live version of 'Refugee,' taken from a 1983 concert in Southern California, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers altered the standard arrangement of the song and even made some new additions. As Petty explains in the commentary, it's "a signature song for us. It's kind of our 'Satisfaction,' if you will. We almost always play 'Refugee.' I almost always enjoy it."

The release of the song and commentary is part of the 'Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Superhighway Tour,' a preview of the upcoming multi-disc set 'The Live Anthology,' which collects material from three decades' worth of concert recordings. The eight-week tour leading up to the Nov. 22 release will not hit any of the usual venues -- instead, the tour will make stops exclusively along the information superhighway. So before you go filling your coolers and packing your grills, we should point out that this "tour" is really just a fancy online subscription club that offers previews of 24 of the tracks, accompanied by much bonus material, including Petty's own audio commentary.
