11 марта 1964: Filming: A Hard Day's Night
This was The Beatles' first day in Twickenham Film Studios, where they would later shoot Help!, Let It Be and a number of promotional videos and solo projects. On this day The Beatles worked from 8am to 10pm, filming the I Should Have Known Better sequence. A set was built to resemble a train guard's van, which was rocked while The Beatles mimed to the song. At one point, however, director Richard Lester had to stop the shoot because the technicians were rocking the set in time with the song.

1969: Paul McCartney and George Harrison produce a Jackie Lomax session
1969: Paul McCartney and George Harrison produce a Jackie Lomax session
Jackie Lomax's debut single for Apple, Sour Milk Sea, was an unexpected chart failure. Ahead of the release of his album, Is This What You Want?, a hastily-arranged session took place for a follow-up single.
The session was produced by Paul McCartney and George Harrison. McCartney had decided that a cover version of The Coasters' Thumbin' A Ride was to be the single's a-side, with an original Lomax composition, Going Back To Liverpool, on the b-side.

McCartney played drums on Thumbin' A Ride, which was recorded in Apple's basement studio in their Savile Row headquarters. McCartney and Harrison also performed guitar parts, with Harrison on lead.

Going Back To Liverpool may have been recorded on this same date; the drumming sounds like McCartney, and he certainly performed backing vocals and guitar.

The two songs were reported as making up Lomax's next single in an issue of the New Musical Express dated 22 March 1969. However, a new song - titled New Day - was eventually released as the a-side, making Thumbin' A Ride the b-side. Going Back To Liverpool was eventually released as a bonus track on a 1991 reissue of Is This What You Want?.

11 марта 1997: Paul was knighted Sir Paul by Queen Elizabeth II11 марта 1997: Paul was knighted Sir Paul by Queen Elizabeth II
-- Paul McCartney, the Beatle who joked 30 years ago about smoking marijuana in the Buckingham Palace toilets, went back to see Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday to collect a knighthood for helping to revolutionize pop music.

The impish lad from Liverpool, one of the most successful songwriters in history, became Sir Paul in a centuries-old ceremony of pomp and solemnity.

But outside the palace, it was just like the old days as central London was treated to the screaming adulation that marked Beatlemania in the 1960s.

Hundreds of tourists and die-hard fans of the Fab Four, wearing Beatles T-shirts and badges, gathered outside the palace gates for a glimpse of McCartney. As they waited they sang old Beatles songs and played Beatles cassettes on sound systems.

Recording, mixing: Thank You Girl-

10.00am, Wednesday 13 March 1963 (49 years ago)

Studio Two, EMI Studios, Abbey Road
Producer: George Martin
Engineer: Norman Smith

Although John Lennon was suffering from a heavy cold which meant he missed this and the previous night's shows, he travelled down to Abbey Road in the morning to overdub a harmonica onto Thank You Girl, the b-side to their forthcoming single From Me To You.
The session took place between 10am and 1pm. Lennon took 15 attempts to complete his harmonica part; these were numbered takes 14-28. Afterwards George Martin oversaw a complicated edit of takes 6, 13, 17, 20, 21 and 23, and mono and stereo mixes were then made.

Although just Lennon took part in the recording, the rest of The Beatles travelled from Bedford, from where they had performed the night before, to London.

Песня «Thank You Girl» должна была стать третьим по счёту синглом «Битлз», однако ее заменили композицией «From Me To You». А «Thank You Girl» вышла на оборотной стороне этого сингла.

Джон Леннон: «Мы написали «Thank You Girl», которая должна была выйти на сингле после альбома «Please Please Me». Новая песня [From Me To You] должна была стать б-стороной. Но она так понравилась нам, что мы сразу решили поместить её на а-сторону, а «Thank You Girl» - на б-сторону».

«Thank You Girl» и «From Me To You» были записаны в один и тот же день.
