Formula One star Vettel buys Ann's ET Beatles album
A CITY woman will be able to buy the bathroom of her dreams – thanks to a little help from her friends and a Formula One motor racing superstar.
Ann Bradshaw, (60) of Wansford near Peterborough sold her signed copy of the With The Beatles album for £2,700 at an auction and it was snapped up by Formula 1 racing driver Sebastian Vettel.
Mrs Bradshaw originally won the album, signed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison, in a competition run by The Evening Telegraph in 1963.
In need of funds to help pay for her new bathroom suite, Mrs Bradshaw decided to part company with the album at an auction in Stamford on Saturday.
In a bizarre twist it was Mrs Bradshaw who actually bid for the album on behalf of the race ace.
Mrs Bradshaw works for F1 team, BMW Sauber and knew the German driver from his time with the team.
Vettel is a huge Beatles fan and when he heard Ann was selling her signed album he contacted her and asked her to bid on his behalf.
While Sebastian – who could still win the World Championship this year after winning yesterday's Japanese Grand Prix – was tucked up in bed preparing for his race -winning performance, Ann put in the bid that secured him the record.
Mrs Bradshaw said: "I know Sebastian from his time at BMW Sauber, and he is a big Beatles fan. He heard from some of my colleagues that I was selling the album, and while we were at the Singapore Grand Prix, he said he would love to buy it, and asked me to bid on his behalf.
"I got another text and email from him on Friday telling me to "please buy the album".
"There was a lot of interest in it, and plenty of bids, but in the end it came down to me and one other man. He stopped at £2,600 so I was able to win the auction for Sebastian. I think he will be really pleased to have it – especially as he won the race on Sunday as well.
"I will give him the album at the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi."
Mrs Bradshaw, who has worked with drivers including Ayrton Senna and Damon Hill, said she hoped Sebastian would be able to visit her new bathroom.
"I will still use the money for the bathroom suite – I bought the house a couple of years ago and am still renovating it. Hopefully when it is all completed Sebastian can come and officially open the bathroom – by cutting toilet paper instead of ribbon, of course!"
