народ, вот многие гр. в 60-е перепевали одни и те же песни.
я тут слушала 3 варианта Shakin All Over: The Lords, Swinging Blue Jeans, The Pirates
и мне лично больше нра. The Lords
кто еще ее исполнял? чья она вообще

и как ваше мнение о версиях других излюбленных песен, которые исполняли сразу несколько. гр.?

Don't Throw Your Love Away в исп. Fortunes не слышал, но это в любом случае кавер. Это оригинальная песня Сечерз - их большой хит!

Песня написана штатным автором Отшельников Гоулдманом ("Нет молока сегодня" и др.), но исполнили ее лучше и соответственно хитовали с ней все-таки Ярдбердз. Песенка очень оригинальная для тех лет, с необычным мелодическим рисунком.

Ha Ha! Said The Clown - слышал только в исполнеии Manfred'а Mann'а. Очень классное исполнение.
Хочу похвастаться: на днях скачал наконец-то Manfred'а Mann'а "Semi-detatched suburban mr.James" - теперь балдею!

Раз уж зашла об этом речь, всем обязательно надо послушать "A little you" Freddie & the Dreamers, это где-то 66-й - великий хит!

With "a" - as opposed to "the" - Mindbenders, Wayne Fontana plays to near-capacity crowds on Swinging Sixties nostalgia tours nowadays. At some point during the proceedings, he lifts his onstage cloth cap to reveal a bald plate. Then there`s a self-mocking "bon mot" about Mother Nature`s unkindness before Wayane glides into “Groovy Kind Of Love”, which had made lucrative impact for the original Mindbenders after they and Fontana Separated in the mid-1960s. When even BBC Radio Two confusing the two factions, who could blame Wayane for enriching his repertoire by affinity?

Wayane Fontana lives but a few miles from Oldham. In 1961, he had been to this district of Greater Manchester what The Beatles were to Liverpool. The single word WAYANE! Plus the place, date and time on local newspaper`s entertainments page was sufficient to fill a venue. When, like pilligin Vikings of old, a contract-waving host from London record companies began scouring northern regions other then Liverpool for New Beatles, Wayane and his backing outfit were signed, aptly enough, to Fontana after the label`s talent scout,Jack Baverstock, liked what he saw one evening at central Manchester`s Oasis club.

Only afterwards did Baverstock learn of the group`s "ad hoc" nature. At the sondcheck, only drummer Ric Rothwell - born 11 March 1944 - had materialized from Wayane`s usual accompanying combo, The Jets. Frantically, the two had hauled in a couple of substitutes in guitarist Eric Stewart (20 January 1945) and bass player Bob Land (10 January 1946), both of The Staggerlees, to make up numbers in every sense of the phrase. Keeping a short set plain and simple, this motley crew, fronted by the charismatic Fontana - with rattling the tambourine his gimmick - and coalesced by Ric`s beat, put up a brave show. “I thought nothing of it,” shrugged Stewart, "and went back to the coffee bar. Then Wayne came up and said, `Jack Baverstock wants to give me a contract - but he wants the guys who were on stage with me tonight to be in the group. Do you want to join?` I said, `Yes, I`d love to`."

Into the bargain, a slate-wiping new name was adapted from a 1963 horror movie, "The Mindbenders", starring Dirk Bogarde, then being screened at a nearby cinema. Wayane, his Mindbenders and their investors stuck gold when a fifth single, "Um Um Um Um Um Um", in the domestic Top Five prefaced a US breakthrough with "Game Of Love" during what has passed into myth as the `British Invasion` of the continent - which, arguably, peaked when the Fontane team, and fellow Mancuians Freddie and the Dreamers and Herman`s Hermits, occupied the first three positions in the Union`s Hot 100.

With the comparative failure of follow-ups to "Game Of Love" came Fontana`s casting aside of his Mindbenders for a solo career in October 1965. "He just walked off stage one night," recolled Eric Stewart, "and we actually carried on the regular show without him. The audience really enjoyed it, and we were happy we didn`t walk off too. Wayne had been hinting that he wanted to go out on his own for some time, and the drummer had been giving him quite a hard time about it that night".

Each side had blamed the other for the chart decline. "All we`ve lost is our tambourine player," snarled Stewart to Disc Music Echo. He was reluctant lead singer of "A Groovy Kind Of Love", written by sixteen-year-old New Yorkers Carole Bayer and Toni Wine, and recorded earlier by Patti Labelle and her Bluebells. Issued in January 1966, The Mindbenders` arrangement stopped just short of Number One in Both the States and home over summer. In Its aftershock, a rush-releaced eponymous Long-player - with vocals shared amongst all three participants - slipped into the lower reaches of its respective listings on both sides of the Atlantic.

Though The Mindbenders went off the boil in North America almost immediately, the British singles charts were game for three more entries - most conspicuously with "Ashes To Ashes", a sob-story that belied the group`s half-joking specification that all their A-sides should have lyrically happy endings. This optimistic wish was not fulfilled in real life. Even a cameo role in the movie "To Sir With Love" could not resusciate them as Top Fifty contenders after 1967. The first serious flop was with "I Want Her She Wants Me" from the pen of The Zombies` Rod Argent. Poor sales for BBC-banned "Schoolgirl" - composed by Graham Gouldman and addressing teenage pregnancy - was another indication thet The Mindbenders couldn`t get another hit to save their lives.

As a result, their post - "Ashes To Ashes" releases have become prized rarities, causing many a record collector`s heart to pound in anticipation as he hastens towards a pile of scratched vinyl on a white elephant stall. Particularly desirable is a second album, With Woman In Mind. Both this and its predecessor included items that were common property of countless other beat groups. Few, however, delivered thr goods as competently as The Mindbenders did - as exemplified by versions of "Seventh Son" by Mose Allison (a chart strike for Georgie Fame in 1969), Rosco Gordon`s "Just A Little Bit", The Temptations` "The Way You Do The Things You Do" and "Shotgun" from Junior Walker. More current were "Cool Jerk" by The Capitols, and Donnie Elpert`s "Little Piece Of Leather". For good measure, there`s a go at Elvis Presley-via-Junior Parker`s "Mystery Train", an "All Night Worker", that`s almost the equal of The Downliners Sect`s sterling rendition of this Rufus Thomas template, plus "The Morning After" and the "Rockin` Jaybee" instrumental, each penned by The Mindbenders themselves.

If With Woman In Mind was considered a worthwhile marketing exercise, it promoted no revival of Mindbendes` fortunes. "It became apparent to me," sighed Eric Stewart, "that the only way we would survive was to go into cabaret, so we did one week in Newcastle, and it was the most soul-destroying week of my life."

So it was that The Mindbenders threw in the towel low on the bill at the Liverpool Empire on 20 November 1968. The final line-up was Eric Stewart with Graham Gouldman on bass, Birmingham organist Jimmy O`Neil and former Chicken Shack drummer Paul Hancox. By this time, Ric Rothwell had become an antiques dealer while Bob Land was to run an audio business back in Manchester until persuaded to re-enter showbuisiness in 1976 as one of Racing Cars, best remembered for an unexpected Top Twenty penetration with "They Shoot Horses Don`t They".

Awaiting a lengthier chart future with 10 CC - which bagan in 1972 - Stewart and Gouldman plunged into session work, accring capital to expand their Strawberry Studio, then situated humbly above a Stockport hi-fi shop. Among their clients was Wayana Fontana, with whom the hatchet had been buried.

Wayane`s commendable crask at "A Groovy Kind Of Love" was issued as a single in the mid-1980-s, but was totally eclipsed by a revival by Phil Collins as a spin-off from the soundtrask to 1988`s Buster film. Like Many discs, this surfaces as rocks in the stream at car-boot sales - whereas you`d have some search to find either The Mindbenders or With Woman In Mind anywhere these days.
