Nov. 16 Capitol albums will be released on CD for the first time officially. (Released that year were "Meet the Beatles," "Something New," "The Beatles Story," "The Beatles' Second Album" and "Beatles '65," )

Each CD will be remastered using 24 bit.

Each cd will have the MONO and STEREO versions.

A couple of points: First, the albums included in the box are still being worked out. "Early Beatles" is not a certainty (it was released very late in '64), and we're told "Beatles Story" may not be included at all. "Meet the Beatles," "The Beatles' Second Album" and "Beatles '65" are more likely -- and given the $50 list, would seem to make sense that it'll be a three CD set. A second source confirmed the details we printed, but hadn't heard it had been added to the schedule. So at this point, it may still be tentative. One other important point: The fact this box is being considered and apparently planned at all is a MAJOR reversal for the Beatles triumverate, who were very much against this set in past years. It seems that we'll see a "Let It Be" DVD in the future, but one can only wonder what else might be under consideration now that this U.S. Capitol CD wall may have fallen -- possibly the long-ago mentioned "Live at the Hollywood Bowl"? A major overhaul of the UK CDs? (We can dream, can't we??)

.. судя по дополнениям на сайте abbeyroad.com - это слухи и не более, та как в планах на 2004 у Capitol Records - выпуск подобного проекта не ЗНАЧИТСЯ.

I caught a small portion of Chris Carter's "Breakfast With The Beatles" show today and he mentioned about this box set coming out in mid-November. I don't know his sources but I'd say this is more than likely to happen since he did not sound like this was still in the rumor stage.

Hitsdailydouble.com, an industry news site, had an item about the Capitol box set attributed to longtime rock scribe Harvey Kubernik. The item says Capitol Records is planning to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' U.S. debut by re-releasing their first three domestic albums (and we're listing the titles here as they did on the site): "Meet The Beatles," "The Beatles" (featuring "Please Please Me" ) and "Something Else" in stereo and mono versions, plus, they say, "The Beatles Story." Putting the inaccurate album titles aside, the addition of "The Beatles Story" is a new wrinkle. The latest we'd heard was that "The Beatles Story" was either a question mark or not included. But things still could change.

Christopher Chardi passed on that he's heard Capitol plans on releasing CD box sets of *all* the U.S. Beatles albums over the course of the next few years. "This was news to me. I have no confirmation on this yet, though."

(Comment: That would make sense, since the first set has only 1964 albums. No specific word, though, on follow-up releases yet.)

Все-таки мне бы хотелось, чтобы там были включены оригинальные английские стерео-миксы, потому что они главнее. А американцы часто делали mock-stereo из моно миксов.

Английских и так хватает. Даже там, где обещают американские.

Capitol Boxes Up Early Beatles Albums

NEW YORK (Billboard) - The Beatles' first four U.S. albums -- "Meet the Beatles," "The Beatles Second Album," "Something New" and "Beatles '65" -- will be bundled together in the boxed set "The Capitol Albums Volume 1," due Nov. 16. All were originally released in 1964 as Beatlemania swept the United States.

"In the '60s, American record labels often chose to reformat British records to suit the needs of the U.S. market," says Capitol president Andy Slater. "In America, singles were generally included on current albums, where in the U.K. albums and singles were most often separate releases. Higher music publishing costs in the U.S. also made it impractical to include as many songs on American albums. In addition, in the case of the Beatles, some of the recordings on the American albums were given more echo than the British versions, to 'Americanize' their sound."

The albums, which have been remastered from the original tapes, include stereo and mono versions of each song. Each album is housed in a miniature replica of its original album cover, while the box will feature a 48-page booklet chronicling the Beatles' unprecedented 1964.

"Meet the Beatles" (originally issued Jan. 20, 1964, in the United States) begins with what was at the time the group's latest single, "I Want To Hold Your Hand," and its U.S. and U.K. B-sides, "I Saw Her Standing There" and "This Boy." The bulk of the remaining tracks were taken from the U.K. version of the album "With the Beatles."

"The Beatles Second Album" (April 10, 1964) is a grabbag of such tracks as the "She Loves You" single and its B-side "I'll Get You," additional songs from "With the Beatles," cuts from the "Long Tall Sally" EP and a German version of "I Want To Hold Your Hand."

"Something New" (July 20, 1964) includes eight songs from the soundtrack to the Beatles' first film, "A Hard Day's Night," although not the title track or "Can't Buy Me Love." The album was denied the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Top LPs chart by the movie's proper soundtrack, issued by United Artists.

"Beatles '65" (Dec. 15, 1964) boasts the "I Feel Fine"/"She's a Woman" single, the "A Hard Day's Night" leftover "(I'll Be Back)" and eight songs from the U.K. album "Beatles for Sale," including three particularly dark John Lennon tunes, "No Reply," "I'm a Loser" and "Baby's in Black."

It is unknown if Capitol plans to re-release additional titles such as "Beatles VI" or "Yesterday ... and Today."

On November 16, 2004, Capitol Records will release The Capitol Albums Volume 1, a collection of the first four Capitol U.S. records by The Beatles.

The set brings together for the first time on CD the album that began it all - Meet The Beatles and the three other Capitol albums that were released in 1964 - The Beatles Second Album, Something New and Beatles '65.

"These are the records that introduced The Beatles to America 40 years ago. Remastered from the original American master tapes, these were the audio mixes and sequence of songs that found their way into our homes," commented Capitol Records president Andrew Slater.

With the explosion of the Fab Four in 1964, Capitol Records not only released one album by the group - but four - and though these albums contained less tracks than those released in Britain, these were the albums that America grew up with.

"In the Sixties, American record labels often chose to reformat British records to suit the needs of the U.S. market," according to Slater. "In America, singles were generally included on current albums, where in the UK albums and singles were most often separate releases. Higher music publishing costs in the U.S. also made it impractical to include as many songs on American albums. In addition, in the case of The Beatles, some of the recordings on the American albums were given more echo than the British versions, to 'Americanize' their sound."

Further, each of the discs will include two versions of each song - one in stereo (or duophonic in some cases) - then the selections are repeated in mono. The duophonic sound was carefully created by Capitol, using 2 channels of mono which were equalized, compressed and then reverb was added. The Capitol Albums Volume 1 have been carefully mastered from the original masters, taken from the vaults at Capitol Records, to ensure that they sound as they did when first released.

With the release of The Beatles catalog on CD in 1987, releases were standardized on a worldwide basis and eventually the U.S. albums, which had last appeared on vinyl and cassette, were deleted.

Since that time there has been increasing demand for these original U.S. albums to make their CD debut which they now do as part of this specially priced and uniquely packaged 4 CD boxed set.

The Capitol Albums Volume 1includes all four of the group's (Capitol) 1964 album releases, and each of the discs is housed in a miniature replica of the original album cover. It will also feature a 48 page booklet, along with a scrap book effect of photos and clippings from that amazing year.

The Capitol Albums Volume 1 is a special release, commemorating the close of the 40th Anniversary of when America first met The Beatles.
