[B] 1960
The Beatles perform at the Kaiserkeller Club, Grosse Freiheit,
Hamburg, West Germany.
[B] 1961
The Beatles perform at the Cavern Club - a lunchtime show. That
night they perform at Village Hall, Knotty Ash, Liverpool.
[B] 1962
The Beatles perform at Matrix Hall, Fletchamstead Highway,
Coventry, Warwickshire. This is The Beatles' first performance in
the Midlands. This is also their first live performance since
their most recent return from Hamburg. In a 1969 conversation with
John Lennon (seen in the film "Let It Be"), Paul McCartney
remembers this performance as "the worst first-night ever" (Paul
incorrectly remembered this performance as taking place at
DeMontfort Hall in Leicester). Supporting The Beatles at the
Matrix are The Mark Allen Group and Lee Teri.
[B] 1963
The Beatles, touring Britain, perform for two "houses" at Coventry
Theatre, Coventry.
[B] 1964
The Beatles, at Playhouse Theatre in London, record a radio
appearance for the BBC series "Top Gear". They record "I'm a
Loser", "Honey Don't", "She's a Woman", "Everybody's Trying to Be
My Baby", "I'll Follow the Sun", and "I Feel Fine". They also gave
a fun interview with host Brian Matthew. Broadcast on November 26.
A portion of the interview is included on the 1994 Beatles
double-CD "Live at the BBC" (Disc one, Track 3). Recordings from
this day's session are included on the 1994 Beatles double-CD "Live
at the BBC": "She's a Woman" (Disc two, Track 9); "I Feel Fine"
(Disc two, Track 18); and "I'm a Loser" (Disc two, Track 19).
[B] 1964
Release in Sweden of Beatles single "I Feel Fine/She's a Woman"
(Parlophone). Ten weeks in the Swedish charts; highest position
#2.
[B] 1967
The Beatles in the recording studio (Room 53, EMI Studios, London).
Additional mixing for "I Am the Walrus" results in significant
variations between the stereo and mono masters. One such variation
is in the intro to the song--the mellotron "siren" plays for four
bars on the mono master; the stereo master has six bars. [Note:
according to some sources, it is a Wurlitzer electric piano, not a
mellotron, on which the "siren" is played.]
[B] 1967
Release in Sweden of Beatles single "Hello Goodbye/I Am the Walrus"
(Parlophone). Eight weeks in the Swedish charts; highest position
#1.
[J] 1980
Release of John Lennon/Yoko Ono LP "Double Fantasy" in the US
(Geffen) and the UK (Geffen). Songs: "(Just Like) Starting Over",
*"Every Man Has a Woman Who Loves Him", "Cleanup Time", *"Give Me
Something", "I'm Losing You", *"I'm Moving On", "Beautiful Boy
(Darling Boy)", "Watching the Wheels", *"I'm Your Angel", "Dear
Yoko", *"Beautiful Boys", *"Kiss Kiss Kiss", "Woman", *"Hard Times
Are Over". [*Yoko].
[B] 1992
US release of Beatles CD singles (5-inch) boxed set "The Beatles
Singles Collection" (Capitol/Parlophone). Includes 22 CDs of the
original Beatles UK singles, each CD having its own picture sleeve.
[R] 1993
A video of Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band's concert at
Montreux, Switzerland, on July 13, 1992, is released in the US,
"Live From Montreux".
[B] 2000
US broadcast of a 2-hour television special about the career of The
Beatles and their impact upon world music and culture. "The
Beatles Revolution", a joint production of ABC-TV and cable channel
VH1, is broadcast this evening on ABC, attracting an estimated 8.7
million viewers. It is scheduled to be re-broadcast by VH1 on
November 23 and November 25.
