The US Premiere of a Garland for Linda. Music to Commemorate the Life of Linda McCartney - New York's Riverside Church, June 3rd 2000
NEW YORK -- Sir Paul McCartney, Sir John Tavener, John Rutter and Sir Richard Rodney Bennett are amongst the composers of "A Garland for Linda," music to commemorate the life of Linda McCartney. Tickets are now on sale for the US premiere of this unique and evocative cycle for a capella chorus on June 3rd 2000 at 8pm at The Riverside Church, New York.
Many of the composers of these original works will be present for this special charity concert in aid of The Garland Appeal, which supports breast cancer research as well as education, performances and recordings of British music in the US.
Music can enhance well being and help those who are suffering from ill health. This is the unifying theme both for this Gala concert and The Garland Appeal. The concert will be broadcast live on NPR's Performance Today.
"A Garland for Linda" will be performed by the Riverside Festival Singers and conducted by Helen Cha Pyo. The performance will also include works of Ralph Vaughan Williams as well as four songs by Sir Paul McCartney and John Lennon, arranged for chorus by Peter Broadbent.
