George Harrison Mini Sells For £23,000
by Paul Cashmere - September 19 2009
A replica of George Harrison`s 1966 Mini Cooper has sold at auction in the U.K. for £23,000 ($US37,440).
The new Mini Cooper S was donated to Olivia Harrison to be auctioned for George’s charity, the Material World Charitable Foundation.
Olivia commissioned artist David Costa, who designed the sleeve for George’s Traveling Wilburys and the Rolling Stones ‘Forty Licks’ covers to re-create the design done by George on his original 1966 Mini Cooper.
The 1966 car is still owned by the Harrison Estate. It was the same car George drove in the Magical Mystery Tour movie.
Beatles manager Brian Epstein, who gave each Beatle a Mini Cooper that year as a gift, gave the original car to George.
Bonhams at Goodwood Revival, Chicester, Sussex conducted the auction on Friday, September 18.
