Radio 2 is to broadcast a two-part tribute to George Harrison. It features stars such as Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and Michael Palin paying tribute to the former Beatle. Part one is broadcast at 8pm on February 23, with the second part at the same time a week later. The shows feature archive interviews with Harrison, some of which have not been heard since their original broadcast.
Programme one, When We Was Fab, deals with Harrison's time with The Beatles and his discovery in the '60s of Indian music, culture and religion.
Programme two, Handle With Care, covers Harrison's solo and Traveling Wilburys recordings, the 1971 charity concert for Bangladesh, his work in the film industry and his passions for motor racing, gardening and the ukelele. George Harrison, who died on November 29 last year, would have celebrated his 59th birthday on February 24. A sold out tribute concert is being held the same day at the Liverpool Empire.
