Wishbone Ash

Странно, что такой темы еще небыло. Отличная группа играющая спокойную довольно мелодичный и интересный рок. Для ознакомления посоветовал бы альбомы Argus'72 Front Page News '77 и Locked In '75. Ну, а так - все альбомы до 1979 года. Недавно приобрел альбом 2004 года, не больно то понравилось - попсоват малость.

Вот спасибо за тему! Мне очень нравится эта замечательная группа, их красивые мелодии и оригинальный саунд сдвоенных гитар. У меня в коллекции имеются практически все их виниловые альбомы, а сам я как раз сейчас готовлюсь к эфиру на радиостанции "Эхо Москвы", посвященному именно WISHBONE ASH, который состоится где-то в конце января. Поэтому, если есть какие-то вопросы об этой команде, я с удовольствием постараюсь на них ответить.

у меня есть только один винил, не помню которого года. на конверте изображен воин в древнегреческом шлеме с копьем. слушал я в основном там отрывки где играет сологитара, благо на виниле это гораздо проще, мотать не нужно (визуально запоминаешь и переставляешь иголку). сологитара в этой группе достаточно задевает за живое. но музыка (на этом альбоме) достаточно однообразна и штампована. хотя 2-3 песни я все же слушал целиком. на мой взляд почти все они затянуты.

Это и есть знаменитый альбом "Argus" (1972) - одно из лучших их произведений.

На самом деле, там не одна, а две гитары, причем не просто две, а две сдвоенные, игравшие то в унисон, то связывающиеся в тесные мелодические узлы. Кроме того, оба гитариста (Тед Тернер и Энди Пауэлл) никогда не делились между собой на лид и ритм. К тому же, все музыканты еще и пели, что создавало неподражаемый саунд ансамбля.

New England не хуже, чем Аргус.

Кстати, именно на разогреве у WISHBONE ASH начинали свою творческую карьеру музыканты замечательной арт-роковой группы CAMEL. :-))

Wishbone Ash have been one of this world’s finest guitar bands for over three decades. Starting in the early 70’s with such award winning albums as Argus and Live Dates, this fine new Friday Music release Illuminations is arguably their strongest effort in quite some time. Recorded in the late 90’s, it has only been sporadically available overseas, but now their North American audience will be able to discover what the rest of their fans have been raving about for the past few years.

Founding member Andy Powell continues the unique tradition of merging blues, rock and progressive melodies with strong vocals, double and triple lead guitars and a pounding rhythm section throughout the entire session. Album opener Mountainside is the perfect example of their original sound. Roger Filgate uses the Taurus bass pedal wisely throughout the tune which gives it a monster opening riff.

If there ever was a blues tune that needs to be explored, Tales Of The Wise will fill the void. This lengthy nine minute rocker is one of the more powerful tunes in this masterful collection. Andy Powell explains “This song starts out as a slow blues twist. It moves into a fast jazzy mid section then back to main blues theme, replete with twin leads and solo work traded off.” Classic Ash indeed!

Acoustic guitars abound on The Ring. This has the old Wishbone Ash English folk rock appeal found on their earlier works. The Powell-Filgate team deliver another memorable moment to this wonderful album “The grey mist ushers in the day, A beggar walks along the king’s highway”

Fan and band favorite Top Of The World is just one of those tunes that you just keep on playing. Repeated listening is easy when you have the chemistry of this classic rock act combined with solid lyrics and haunting melodies “How does it feel to be on top of the world? Looking around, you see the ground below.”

Illuminations by Wishbone Ash is finally released in North America. As a special bonus to commemorate this fine album, Andy Powell and Roger Filgate have found a bonus track, a beautiful instrumental called The Crack Of Dawn. This cd is the first in the Wishbone Ash Remasters series for Friday Music and we think you will agree that this album is an exciting first offering. Enjoy!

"Иллюминейшенз" как-то были у меня на обзоре, и я их даже похвалил. Хотя у самого в фонотеке один только "You Broke My Heart So..." - и то много.

Все их альбомы не слышал, потому хочу спросить: после 79-го года пошла фигня (попса)?
Нужно ли искать альбомы того периода?

После очень интересного на мой взгляд альбома "Just Testing" внимание заслуживают, пожалуй, лишь "Raw To The Bone" (1985) и "Here To Hear" (1989).
А еще в 2004 году Wishbone Ash выпустили свой последний на сегодняшний день студийный альбом "Lost Pearls", содержащий архивные и до этого никогда ранее не издававшиеся на лонгплеях, записи периода сессий альбомов "No Smoke Without Fire" (январь 1978) и "Just Testing" (август 1979), сделанные в составе: Мартин Тернер, Энди Пауэлл, Стив Аптон и Лори Уайсфилд.
